This past fall, 16 students from Beach Middle School participated in SRSLY’s 5-week comic book workshop series, which was led by local cartoonist Jerzy Drozd. The students learned about storytelling, and each of them wrote and drew an original story for their final project.
All of the stories have now been published in the newly released book, CPTN SRSLY and the Super Master Sentinels: The New Generation (Volume 3).
On April 17, all of the student authors signed copies of the comic book during the lunch hours, and we passed out hundreds of copies to all of the Beach students!
The workshop is another substance-free way for students to have fun! It also provides an opportunity for pro-social community involvement, which is a protective factor against youth substance abuse.
The workshop and book printing was made possible by SRSLY, Chelsea School District, and Chelsea District Library with support from the Michigan Council for the Arts and Cultural Affairs, the National Endowment for the Arts, Chelsea Kiwanis Club, 5 Health Towns Foundation, Chelsea Education Foundation, and Rotary Club of Chelsea.
Congratulations to these authors, and thank you to everyone for your support!
