83% of Chelsea High School Students Don’t Drink Alcohol

Each month, SRSLY and Project SUCCESS share a statistic with youth and the community from the Michigan Profile for Healthy Youth (MiPHY) survey.

SRSLY Check Your Stats: Alcohol

83% of Chelsea High School students have not drank alcohol in the past 30 days, and 98% of Beach Middle School students have not drank alcohol in the past 30 days (Michigan Profile for Healthy Youth – MiPHY 2018*).

Did You Know?

Of the students who reported drinking alcohol, 40% said they obtained it by having someone give it to them (Youth Risk and Behavior Survey 2017).

Ask Your Family

Parents can reduce this number of youth who are underage drinking by talking to your kids about alcohol. The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA)’s iTalk campaign provides resources to parents to help start – and keep up – the conversation.

Families can also become a SRSLY Safe Home – a home in which the family has committed to providing a safe and substance-free environment for their children and for any other youth who spend time there. Youth and adults can be confident that minors under the age of 21 will not be offered or allowed to use drugs or alcohol while they are in these families’ homes.
